“The landscape gardening program at Sandhills is more than meets the eye,” says Shawn Beavers, a 2014 graduate of the Landscape Gardening program. Upon beginning the program, Beavers immediately recognized the intensity of the program and how much dedication and effort it would take to succeed, but knew the contacts he would make could open many doors.

The small class size, hands on experiences, and close knit peer and instructor group are a few of the many things that aided Beavers in his success as a student. He enjoyed taking Greenhouse Management and Advanced Plant Science because of the challenges faced and responsibilities given.

Beavers continued his education at North Carolina A&T State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education with a concentration in Plant Science.

Currently working for BASF in the Agriculture Sales and Marketing Professional Development program, he sees himself staying in the agriculture industry for the long run and hopes to continually learn along the way.

His simple, structured work days allow time for experimenting in the kitchen, riding his bike, hiking or enjoying movies. Beavers is originally from Chatham County, NC.
