Carey Jacobs earned both the Civil Engineering and Surveying Technology associate degrees at Sandhills Community College. Upon graduation, he accepted employment with a company that was present at a job fair on the campus, Parsons Transportation.
At the time of Jacob’s hiring, there was a strong effort to see the US Highway 1 Bypass around Vass and Cameron completed prior to a prestigious golf tournament that was to be held in Pinehurst. Jacobs oversaw bridge and roadway construction for Parsons as a Transportation Technician I. He was joined by several other Sandhills Engineering Technology graduates on the project.
With the second company he worked with, Jacobs served as a Transportation Technician II on the Interstate 74 construction in Robeson County.
Today, he is a Project Manager at UNC-P where he oversees state construction project. Jacobs is working on a master’s degree at NCSU in Geographic Information Systems.
He credits Sandhills with giving him the technical training needed to earn a good salary and make a difference by improving his community.
