SCC Small Business Center Classes in August

Richmond_SBC_4cThe mission of the Small Business Center at Sandhills Community College is to increase the success rate and numbers of viable small businesses in North Carolina by providing high quality, readily accessible assistance to prospective and existing small business owners leading to job creation and retention.

Business Development

The seminar “How to Start a Drone Business” introduces participants to the emerging technology industry of Drones (UAV), the opportunities, and the specific actionable steps entrepreneurs must take to enter and start a successful small business in this new industry.

“How to Start a Drone Business” will be held on Thursday, Aug 9 from 6-9 p.m.

Business Accounting

In “QuickBooks Online l” QuickBooks expert and certified bookkeeper, Crystal Wambeke, introduces small business owners to the cloud-based software QuickBooks Online and suggests ways this popular software can help small business owners save time, simplify bookkeeping and avoid costly errors. Bring your laptop or tablet to class.

“QuickBooks Online l” will be held on Tuesday, August 14 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

In “QuickBooks Online ll” small business owners learn even more about using the cloud-based software QuickBooks Online. Discover more advanced topics on how to manage accounts receivable and accounts payable, reconcile bank accounts, manage inventory, and create financial reports. Bring your laptop or tablet to class.

“QuickBooks Online ll” will be held on Tuesday, Aug 21 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Nonprofits & Grant Writing

Discover the basics of starting a nonprofit entity in “How to Start a Nonprofit.” Failure to take the proper steps could result in serious consequences for individuals as well as being detrimental to the original cause for which the non-profit was designed. If you are considering starting a nonprofit business, please plan to attend this informative seminar.

“How to Start a Nonprofit” will be held on Wednesday Aug 22 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Learn how to get 501(c)(3) status on your own in “Doing the 501(c)(3) Thing.” The benefits and ability to apply for government and foundation grants can be vital to the success of your nonprofit organization. Sam Gore, a nonprofit expert and Certified Risk Management Specialist, takes you through the process of completing Form 1023 and provides vital information on how to respond to statements and questions satisfying the IRS reviewers. REQUIRED MATERIALS: Participants must download Form 1023 from http://www.irs.gov and bring it to the seminar.

“Doing the 501(c)(3) Thing” will be held on Wednesday, Aug 29 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
