M/W Golfers Complete Sweep
The men’s golf team made it a clean sweep for the 2017-18 school year for the Flyers sports teams with a Region X title this weekend at nearby Whispering Pines. SCC torched the course with a first-day team 306 score. Koby Markham and Brady Childers shared medalist honors with a two day 155 total. The men’s squad will head north to Chautauqua, NY in early June to compete for the NJCAA crown
Not to be outdone by the men, the Flyers’ women’s squad boasted four Region X first-team members with Shirley Ou earning medalist honors last Tuesday. The win at Legacy Lakes Golf Course garnered the women their 5th Region title in the last six years. The Lady Flyers will head to AZ the afternoon of graduation to test their talents against the other top teams in the country.
Sand Volleyball, Volleyball & More Sand Volleyball
History happened Saturday in Pinehurst with the first Sandhills Community College sand volleyball intercollegiate event. Teams from Wake Tech, St. Andrews, Patrick Henry and host Sandhills competed in pairs on the sand courts. The fast-growing sport in the NCAA and a recently announced sanctioned sport in the NJCAA sand volleyball will be a welcome and complementary addition to the female offerings at Sandhills. Pictured is the winning pair from the championship flight, the Flyers own Rachel Mashburn and Chelsea Green. Congrats!
More to come from volleyball this week with the Flyers moving indoors Wednesday versus Wake Tech at 5:30pm – don’t miss this chance to see your ladies.
Saturday join the annual fun with the 8th sand tournament starting at 6pm. Come enjoy food from the MarketPlace food truck and cheer on teams from around the local community.
