Free Children’s Program at Boyd Library

bb2b074d5583ea6f7276b63c592ba863“Get into Good Character!” is the theme of the Saturday Children’s Program at the Boyd Library on the campus of Sandhills Community College. This free drop-in event will be on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m.-Noon.

Parents, grandparents, and guardians are invited to bring their little ones and enjoy the sharing of some of the most beloved stories and book characters in children’s literature – from both classic books and those recently published. A book show will begin at 10:15 a.m.

A wide variety of children’s books series will be on display for check out as well as books about taking care of our planet to celebrate Earth Day which is on April 22 this year. A game area will include Book Character Bingo, pin the hat on Curious George, pin the glasses on Junie B. Jones or Arthur, as well as book character puzzles and tic-tac-toe. There will be a choice of book character crafts for parents and children, a drawing for six new books, bookmarks, take-away bags, and snacks for all. Everyone is invited to come dressed as their favorite book character, and there will be a special treat for all that wear a costume.

The SCC Boyd Library

Those who live or work in Moore or Hoke counties, and are 18 or older, may receive a Community Patron Library Card.

The Katharine L. Boyd Library provides comfortable, pleasant surroundings for study and leisure reading. Library materials are not only selected to support and supplement academic programs, but they are also chosen to stimulate reading as a leisure-time activity.

The collection includes more than 80,000 items and extensive periodical holdings which include subscriptions to local, state, and national newspapers. There is a large microfilm and microfiche collection which includes a complete run of the New York Times from its beginning in 1851.

There are computerized indices to newspaper and periodical articles such as NC LIVE and Opposing Viewpoints. The library’s collection of over 2,000 videotapes and DVDs contains instructional programs, feature films, documentaries, musicals, operas, plays, classic children’s films, and PBS programs.

The Boyd Library is open Monday-Thursday 7:45 am-8 pm, Friday 7:45 am-4 pm and Saturday 9 am-1 pm. The library is closed on Sundays.
