The month of March will bring a variety of classes to enrich professional development through the Career Training division of Sandhills Community College’s Continuing Education Department. The college is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities.
Health Care Occupations
The “Medication Administration Aide” course is designed to meet training requirements for the NC Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification. The training prepares Nurse Aides to administer medications to skilled nursing facility residents. Course topics include scope of duties, legal and ethical responsibilities, administration of medications by various routes, infection control and documentation including commonly used abbreviations. The “Medication Administration for Adult Care Homes” course is a 15-hour competency-based curriculum that provides unlicensed staff with basic knowledge and skills needed to ensure that medication administration is performed in a safe and effective manner. Successful completion of the 15-hour training course will prepare individuals to take the state written medication exam for adult care home staff. “Mental Health First Aid USA” is an eight-hour training to teach participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.
“Mental Health First Aid USA” will be held on March 8 and 9 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. The cost is $75.
The “Bank Teller Training” course will include an introduction to banking operations, handling cash, balancing operations, customer relations, and security procedures. Upon successful completion of the course, students are guaranteed an interview with a local bank.
“Bank Teller Training” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursday from March 13-April 19 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $130 plus the cost of the text.
Hospitality and Food Service
“Bartending” will teach you the basics of bartending as a profession or for home use in only four Saturdays. Topics include popular mixed drinks, wine, utensils, glassware, fruit cutting, bar procedures, and ABC laws.
“Bartending” will be held on Saturdays, March 10-31 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $75.
Learn the basics of food handling safety and facility sanitation requirements “ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation.” This course is recommended for all food service facilities, including supervisory personnel, culinary professionals, and food service staff.
“ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation” will be held March 12, 13, 19 and 20 from 5:30-9 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.
The “Income Maintenance Caseworker” course goes deeper into the information and strategies necessary to develop a clear understanding of the knowledge required to be successful in an entry-level position in the field of human services. Completion of the course, “Become a DSS Caseworker” is required before enrolling.
“Income Maintenance Caseworker” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 13-May 10 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $130.
Successful completion of the “Auto Safety Inspection” course will certify students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. Must have a valid driver’s license.
“Auto Safety Inspection” will be held March 5 and 6 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.
Successful completion of the “OBD Emissions Control Inspection” course will certify students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. Students must be Certified in Auto Safety Inspection. This is also the Recertification class.
“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” will be held March 12 and 13 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.
“Vehicle Dealer’s Continuing Education” is required of all non-franchise vehicle dealers in NC. This course will include updates of NC general statutes and DMV policies and procedures.
“Vehicle Dealer’s Continuing Education” will be held on Thursday, March 29 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The cost is $75.
The activities involved in the “Sandhills High Adventure Rope Course” will guide participants through physical and mental challenges, which promote creative, productive, and motivated teams. This course will challenge participants to succeed in team building, self-motivation, problem-solving, decision making, and effective communication.
