Who Keeps the Community Learning for a Lifetime?
The team that directs the continuing education at SCC.
Michelle Bauer wanted to go to UNC so desperately, she hid from her parents a full scholarship letter received from another college. She got her wish, and at UNC she earned a BA in Communication Studies and is now working on a Master’s in Education Administration in Adult and Higher Education.
Michelle came to the college after ten years with the Arc of Moore County. She is the Director of Public Safety in the Fire and Rescue side of the house. Passionate about higher education and lifelong learning and the positive impact it has on people’s lives, Michelle said, “I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work at a place that provides so many opportunities for a better tomorrow for so many.”
A regular fixture at the Caddell Training Center, where the Fire Academy and other safety training programs are held, Michelle also visits local fire departments and sets up classes as needed for certifications. “No day is the same,” she said. “I am constantly working with our partners to ensure local personnel are well-trained and prepared to keep the public safe.”
Because she has three young children, you can probably find Michelle on a local ball field any given day of the week, except when she isn’t skiing or paddleboarding at Lake Tillery.
