Career Training Classes at SCC in October

The Continuing Education Career Training program is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities. Fall brings a variety of classes to enrich your professional development.

Automotive

Successful completion of the “Auto Safety Inspection” course will certify students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. Must have a valid driver’s license.

“Auto Safety Inspection” will be held Oct. 16 and 17 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

Successful completion of the “OBD Emissions Control Inspection” course will certify students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. Students must be Certified in Auto Safety Inspection. This is also the Recertification class.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” will be held Oct. 23 and 24 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

Industry

“Fork Lift Operator” participants successfully completing this course will be eligible for the fork lift

operator’s license. Topics to be presented include basic design of lift trucks, stabilization of trucks, maintenance, repair costs and safety aspects in operation.

“Fork Lift Operator” will be held Oct. 27 and 28. The Friday class will meet from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday will meet from 8 a.m.-Noon.  The cost is $75.00 plus the cost of text.

“Industrial Sewing” provides instruction on the basic principles of practices of industrial sewing. Emphasis is placed on machine operation, setup and maintenance, threading, sewing straight lines, corners, curves and welts. Upon completion, students should be able to set up and operate a variety of industrial sewing machines.

“Industrial Sewing” will be held at Sun Path Products, Inc. in Raeford. Class will take place Oct. 23-Dec. 8 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday class will be 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost is $185.

Business

“Bank Teller Training” is designed for those interested in becoming a bank teller. This course will include an introduction to banking operations, handling cash, balancing operations, customer relations, and security procedures. Upon successful completion of the course, students are guaranteed an interview with a local bank.

“Bank Teller Training” will be held Oct. 10-Nov. 16 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $130 plus the cost of text.

A “Notary Public” is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. Participants must have a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions.

“Notary Public” will be held Oct. 17 and 19 from 5:45-9:15 p.m. The cost is $75.

Hosptitality and Food Service

“Bartending” will teach the basics of bartending as a profession or for home use in only four Saturdays. Topics include popular mixed drinks, wine, utensils, glassware, fruit cutting, bar procedures, and ABC laws.

“Bartending” will be held Oct. 7-28 on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

“ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation” will teach the basics of food handling safety and facility sanitation requirements. This course is recommended for all food service facilities, including supervisory personnel, culinary professionals, and food service staff.

“ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation” will be held Oct. 16, 17, 23 and 24 from  5:30-9 p.m. The cost is  $75.00 plsu the cost of text.

Team Building

The activities involved in the “Sandhills High Adventure Rope Course” will guide participants through physical and mental challenges, which promote creative, productive, and motivated teams. This course will challenge participants to succeed in team building, self-motivation, problem solving, decision making, and effective communication. Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives, or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Registration

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
