NEW Summer Cooking Classes at SCC

Lifelong Learning Institute 

Create mouthwatering delights with Associate Professor Martin Brunner, Owner & Pastry Chef at The Bakehouse in Aberdeen. These classes will meet in the Little Hall main kitchen. Students must wear closed-toe & nonslip shoes, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt. Spaces are limited and early registration is recommended.

Survey of European Tortes

Learn how to mix and bake classic European Tortes made in Chef Brunners’ native land, Austria! Take away tips from the professional to make three separate types of cakes (Sacher, Black Forest, and Hazelnut) with the corresponding techniques to finish each. Then choose your favorite Torte to finish and share this delectable creation with family and friends. May 23 & 24 TW 1 – 5 p.m. $124

Classic Dinner Desserts

Amaze your dinner party guests by serving these delectable traditional desserts: Crème Brulee, Souffle, and Mousse. Chef Brunner shows you how to successfully master these three classic desserts properly and efficiently, without burning down the house! June 7 W 5 – 9 p.m.  $74

The Alchemy of Sourdough

If you love the smell of fresh-baked bread, then this class is for you! Learn the tricks of the trade from Chef Brunner, who was trained in all things bread by his dad, an Austrian Certified Master Baker! Class includes how to “catch” your culture, feed it, and ultimately bake several types of bread, from Pain au Champagne to hearty rye sourdough loaves. June 14 & 15 WTH 1 – 5 p.m. $124

Youth Enrichment

Let’s Have a Pizza Party

Bring your favorite adult and spend some quality time together in the kitchen learning how to make your own dough (or use one from the store) to build your own creative pizza with Chef Fiona. Choose your favorite toppings, shapes, and sizes. ages 10-14 plus an adult. Instructor: Chef Fiona McKenzie, Russell Dining Room, Little Hall. $44 each for adult and child. June 13 T 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

How Sweet It Is

What’s more fun than creating delicious desserts in the kitchen with your favorite adult? Think of your favorite sweets, sprinkles, and toppings and join Chef Fiona in the SCC Culinary Lab to learn a few fun, creative, and easy desserts you can make at home. Bring your sweet tooth and your favorite adult for this class. Ages 10-14 plus an adult. Instructor: Chef Fiona McKenzie. Russell Dining Room, Little Hall. $44 each for adult and child.
