The Advanced Manufacturing Program at Sandhills Community College offers high-tech, in-demand career training using state-of-the-art equipment designed to meet the growing demand for skilled workers. Through partnerships with local employers, the Advanced Manufacturing Program aligns class offerings and curriculum to provide employers a pipeline of skilled workers with job-specific skills.
SCC classes prepare students to achieve national certifications from institutes such as the National Center for Construction Education Research (NCCER), Manufacturers’ Skills Standards Council (MSSC), Electronic Technicians’ Association (ETA), and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). Class content focuses on safety and fundamental job skills to prepare students for gainful employment.
Job placement assistance and career coaching is offered to students who successfully complete the course. Opportunities are also available for high school students.
The Industrial Electrical and Electronics class is the first course of a series of three classes to attain a local SCC Automated Technology Certificate. This class offers training according to ETA competencies in basic AC principles, DC principals and application, digital concepts, and fundamental electronic applications. Upon successful completion, students will be able to sit for ETA certification assessments and take the next course in the Automated Technology Program, Programmable Logic Controls.
Industrial Electrical and Electronics will be held Jan. 9 – July 12 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost is $185, ETA certification fees plus text.
Basic Machining and CNC Maching classes will begin in April. Fall Semester 2017 will offer Welding, NCCER Welding and Certified Production Technician.
Sandhills Hoke Center Advance Manufacturing Classes
Basic Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) is the second course of three classes in the SCC Automated Technology Certificate program. This class trains students to explain how a programmable logic control system operates (PLC), understand basic logic operations, create a PLC program, design complex logic operations, master storage function applications, understand and implement the principal of program flow control, carry out analog processing, and solve complex text assignments. Class prerequisites is a basic knowledge of control engineering (basic logical operations, flipflops, timers, counters, process control, function plans).
Basic Programmable Logic Controls will be held at the Hoke Center Jan. 10 – May 2 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus text.
Mechanical Power Transmission Fundamentals Level 1 is designed to provide students with the necessary foundation content to understanding working with mechanical power transmissions. Topics covered range from reading blueprints, industrial mathematics to linear motion, drilling speed calculations and more. Topics are to be instructor led with hands-on demonstrations and troubleshooting performed by the student. Upon successful completion, students should be able to identify, apply learning to all fundamental content and demonstrate safe proper maintenance and troubleshooting procedures in those areas.
Mechanical Power Transmission Fundamentals Level 1 will meet at the Hoke Center Jan. 9 – July 31 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus text.

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives, or to maintain and support current efforts.
