Sandhills Community College recognized Julia Brown as the winner of the 2016 Adjunct Excellence in Teaching Award. Brown is an instructor in the Associate Degree in Nursing program.
The award was presented by Vice President of Academic Affairs Rebecca Roush and Dean of Instruction Linda Chandler.
“The college could not do what we do for our students without our excellent and dedicated adjunct faculty,” said Roush.
Explaining the difficulty in choosing a winner among numerous deserving nominees, Roush made mention of all nominees prior to announcing the winner.
“Developmental Instructor Mamie Allen received highest praises for her excellence in the classroom providing encouragement and enthusiastic support to her students.
“Early Childhood Education Instructor Peggy Johnson is known as a ‘mover and shaker’ with her passion for education. Her high expectation of her students motivates them to push themselves further than they often think they can.
“Since 1999, George Thompson has provided invaluable real world experiences to our Golf Course Management students. His contribution and dedication are beyond compare.”
Speaking of Brown, Roush said, “Julia exemplifies the college’s core values. She is known to our Nursing students as one who creates a comfortable and encouraging learning environment, even in the most stressful situations. She demonstrates integrity in all practices. She exhibits to her peers and students the exceptional care we expect our graduates to provide to their patients.”
